Frozen Paloma: Gear Up For Summer With These Shaved Ice Treats

Frozen slushies are the ultimate summertime treat that each one of us have memories of, growing up. From rose syrup to fruit juice and practically anything that was sweet and tasted great with ice, all of us have had our own experience of cooling off in the heat with a frozen treat. Although popsicles are great, a slushie is a frozen treat that you can eat and drink at the same time. Depending on what you’re feeling on a regular day, it can change from wanting to sip on something on the go or enjoying every last bite of it, savouring it in the moment.

As most adults with tons of things to deal with on an everyday basis, we could all use a bit of cheer in the form of this sweet, frozen slush that also has tequila-infused in it. We’re not going to promise that this is a work of moments but with a bit of planning and lots of waiting, we can assure you that the results will have you making boxes of these to stash in your freezer. Interestingly enough, if you leave out the tequila, your kids could get in on some of this frozen deliciousness too!

Should You Eat Frozen Foods?

  • 60 ml grapefruit juice
  • 2 tablespoons simple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 60 ml tequila
  • 1 cup club soda

Method

  • Combine the grapefruit juice, lime juice and simple syrup and mix everything until combined. Pour it into a large, deep dish or ice moulds and stick it in the freezer overnight or for a minimum of 6 hours.
  • Once frozen, use a fork to scrape bits of ice from the deep dish or simply add the frozen cubes from the mould to a food processor and blend the contents until they turn into a coarse mixture with shards of ice, still intact.
  • Pour the frozen slush into a glass and add the tequila. Top up with club soda, squeeze some lime juice and serve cold with a spoon to eat it with.
