According to reports shared by the food delivery platform – Zomato – the number of orders placed on December 31 totalled the number of orders placed between 2015 and 2020. Over 97 lakhs were given in tips to delivery partners associated with the platform, with over 140 orders placed every second.

The quick commerce off-shoot of Zomato – known as BlinkIt – had delivered a total of 200,000 soft drinks, with both platforms collectively recording 8,422 orders that were placed around 8:00 pm. The other delivery platform, Swiggy, also witnessed its largest order placed in Kolkata, that consisted of a whopping 914 items and amounted to ₹48,950 – the highest from a single order. Instamart – its partner service, clocked sales of 4,377 orders from users for Red Bull and 22,000 orders for buttermilk. The delivery service also witnessed a 63% rise in the sale of gifting products, whereas other items like PartySmart pills, ice cream and soft drinks were among some of the most-ordered things. What was also noteworthy in the course of these record single-day orders, is how the big orders started to come in early – some of them highlighted by the representatives of the above-mentioned services.
