While the three main meals occupy the important parts of our daily diet, let’s not forget that it is the snacking that we do in between that actually includes our favourite treats. Our hunger pangs in between meals are satisfied by those crispy, delicious tidbits - including chips, fryums, and more. Come winter and these cravings increase by leaps and bounds.
This is the time when we want to stay tucked in our bed with yummy snacks to keep ourselves warm. And why not, this season brings along with it a range of yummy delicacies to gorge on. From Gajar Ka Halwa to Til Papdi, Gajjak, Peanut Chikki, and more - there is no dearth of delicious winter treats that leave us spoilt for choices.
Winter season demands one to keep the body warm from within, and this is where our diet plays an important role. Til (or sesame seeds) is enriched with fibre, iron, copper, Vitamin B and E, calcium, and good fats - all of which help us to keep warm naturally and stay nourished. Peanuts have a good amount of fibre, protein, and Omega-3 fatty acids that help provide energy to keep going during the season. These two together make for an excellent snack for the season.
If you too are a fan of such hearty winter treats, this Peanut Til Barfi recipe is sure to please you. A scrumptious winter snack, Peanut Til Barfi is quick and easy to prepare, and just requires a handful of ingredients.
All you need is a mix of freshly roasted and ground til and peanuts, along with desiccated coconut. The mix is roasted in ghee, mixed with milk powder, cardamom and sugar syrup, and made into a dough. The dough is rested for an hour, and then cut into small barfi pieces. That’s it, your homemade fresh til and peanut barfi is ready to enjoy. Here’s the full recipe:
Ingredients:
- 250 gm sesame seeds
- 250 gm roasted peanuts
- 2 tbsp desiccated coconut
- 2 tbsp ghee
- ½ cup milk powder
- ½ tsp cardamom powder
- 250 gm sugar
- 1 cup water
Method:
- Heat a kadhai on medium flame and dry roast sesame seeds. Stir continuously.
- Once done, grind the sesame seeds. Likewise, grind the roasted peanuts too.
- Now, transfer both the ingredients, along with the desiccated coconut, to a bowl and mix well.
- Heat ghee in a pan and add the barfi mix and roast everything well on low-medium flame.
- After the mixture absorbs the ghee, turn off the flame and add milk powder to it.
- Add some cardamom powder and mix well. Stir continuously.
- In another pan, prepare a sugar syrup by mixing sugar and water on medium flame. Alternatively, you can use jaggery.
- Once the syrup is done, add it to the barfi mixture.
- Prepare a soft dough on medium flame. Transfer it to a greased plate.
- Let it rest for an hour and then cut the barfi into small pieces.
- And you have the delicious Til Peanut Barfi ready to be relished.
