It takes just a few clicks to order food online, and while that has made life simpler, it has also given rise to various health complications! We tend to binge on unhealthy food and our gut continues to cry out for help. This also means that it is important to maintain the pH levels of your stomach, in order to enjoy a good metabolism and stay protected from digestive issues. So, what’s the solution? A diet with alkaline foods is your best bet!
What is an alkaline diet?
Dr Ritika Samaddar, Regional Head, Department of Clinical Nutrition and Dietetics, Max Hospitals, Saket, New Delhi, tells HeathShots, “Eating alkaline foods helps to maintain the pH of the body, reduces the acid load and boosts the body’s energy levels, thereby improving health. The alkaline diet focuses on consuming foods that have an alkaline effect on the body. Our blood is slightly alkaline, and our stomachs highly acidic, so eating alkaline foods will help in maintaining the pH on the alkaline side”.
An alkaline diet lays emphasis on consuming more vegetables, fruits, drinking lots of water, and reducing intake of sugar, alcohol, as well as non-vegetarian food especially meat, dairy and processed foods. Hence, adding certain vegetables, fruits and nuts that have high pH levels can help you maintain a healthy gut.
