Making a shift to veganism but don’t want to give up on those decadent baked goodies? These tips and tricks will ensure a smooth transition.
A typical vegan diet cuts out any and all animal products like eggs, milk, butter, etc. Most of these ingredients form the very base for baked goods, so substituting and swapping these has to be carried out carefully. Here are some ideas that can come in handy.
Substitutes for eggs
Eggs play a very integral role in baked goods, the egg white acts as a binder while the yolk brings a special richness to whole recipes. Vegan baking often swaps the egg with a flax egg or a chia egg.
A flax or chia egg is just two and a half tablespoons of water with a tablespoon of ground flax or chia seed, which is stirred and allowed to gel at room temperature. It can be used in the recipe which calls for a single egg.
