Veg Fried Rice: A Punch Of Chinese Tadka To the Indian Rice

Vegetable Fried Rice, as the name says, is a dish of rice fried along with stirred vegetables. But is it that simple, yes it is. The Chinese tadka added to the rice makes it heavenly, delicious, and lovable. This recipe is easy to make and can serve as a perfect main course for the guests if called over for house parties. The Chinese platter of Veg Fried Rice and the manchurian combo is famous and most sold in restaurants. The vegetables ( like carrot, beans, capsicum, bell pepper, corn, etc.)  added to the dish make it nutritious and fulfilling. The sauces add a punch of sweet, salty, and spiciness to the dish making it lip-smacking.

Origins of the Fried Rice concept

This first developed during the Sui Dynasty in China and is one of the popular dishes of Greater China and is often served as one of the ideal dishes at Chinese banquets, mainly served before desserts. Fried Rice is believed to have originated in the process to utilise the leftovers from a meal. The Southern Chinese preferred to have rice as one of their staple foods consumed along with meat and vegetables. The leftovers from that part of the meal used to be good enough to be wasted or fed to animals. Therefore, they found a way around it and started to cook all of them together with soy sauce, spices and garlic and have it hot. They started liking the dish and since then it became popular all over China, finding its roots in India too.  Today several varieties and recipes of Chinese Rice are found and differ in taste because of the different sauces used in different proportions. 

Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp Oil
  • 3 tbsp Chopped Garlic
  • 1 Sliced Onion
  • 1 tsp Chopped Ginger
  • 1/2 tsp Black Pepper Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp White Pepper Powder
  • 1 tsp crushed Green Chilli
  • 1 Chopped Carrot
  • Bell Pepper (Red, Yellow, and Green) in equal proportion
  • 1 tsp Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Vinegar
  • 1/4 Cup Cabbage
  • 3 Tbsp Chopped Spring Onion
  • 250 grams rice

Method Of Preparation

  • Heat oil in a pan and add garlic to it, let it turn slightly golden brown
  • Now add the sliced onions, stir and then add ginger and the chilies
  • Cook them together for a minute
  • Now add the spices (black and white pepper, salt)
  • Add carrot and the bell pepper, cook for around 2 minutes
  • Now add soy sauce and vinegar and saute them together for a minute
  • Now add the cabbage and spring onions, keep stirring for 2-3 minutes on high flame
  • Finally add cooked rice and mix it together with the vegetables so that the sauce fuses well with it
  • The fried rice is ready to be served hot and enjoy

This quick and easy five-minute recipe is tasty, healthy, and convenient. It holds the perfect tanginess of the sauce and makes people drool over its taste.
