Eggnog is an old-fashioned drink believed to have been originated in England, now it has become a sought-after beverage in America too. This drink really makes you wonder how people came up with the spiced egg-yolk-and-milk mixture, as those are two of the things you would not imagine together. As per the legends, this drink was a concoction of warm ale and milk with eggs or figs that were used to treat cold and the flu during the Middle Ages. But when the eggy beverage was brought to the New World (America) by the colonizers, they added their own twist to this beverage by adding rum as it was less expensive than other liquors shipped from England. From there, the eggnog got its wide popularity and was often served at social gatherings.
Eggnog has a gamut of variations, but the basic recipe has not changed over the years. It still remains a crowd pleaser during the holiday season in America. This beverage can be made in many ways, and it is always exciting to experiment too but the classic eggnog will always remain a winner in its own right.
