What are Shirataki noodles?
Made from Konjac plant that is found in China, Japan and other South east Asian countries, Shirataki is a form of long, white noodles that come packed with a fish-smelling odor. They are also referred to as Konjac noodles and contain a substance called glucomannan which is a kind of fiber that is retained from the roots of the plant. They are made of 94% water due to which they are considered zero-calorie noodles.
How are they made?
The noodles are prepared with the help of glucomannan fiber, whose flour is mixed in some water and lime water is added to it too. This gives the noodles the translucent appearance and also its name Shirataki, which means white waterfall, in Japan.
