Five Food Items That Can Help in Increasing Low Blood Pressure

Low blood pressure is also known as hypotension. It's a medical condition that occurs when your blood pressure reads lower than 90/60 mm Hg. The condition affects many people particularly those who are more than 30 years of age. Low blood pressure can result in a heart attack and stroke, which may cause long-term damage to the heart as well as to the brain. Symptoms of low blood pressure include blurry vision, fainting, dehydration, dizziness, light-headedness, etc. Having certain food items and following a few habits can help you increase your blood pressure to a healthy level. 1. Salt 

Salt can help in raising your dipping blood pressure. Low sodium diets are not beneficial for everyone with blood pressure-related problems. One should immediately increase the intake of sodium if he/she experiences low blood pressure. Please note that you should not take salt directly, dilute it with lemon or sugar. 

2. Hydrate yourself 

Dehydration can lower your blood pressure making you feel uneasy. Dehydration can occur either because of not having the right amount of water or through vomiting, severe diarrhea, fever, excess sweating, and nervousness. If you experience even mild symptoms of dehydration, quickly take some energy drinks, such as glucose or electoral powder. 

3. Eat Vitamin B12 Containing Foods

A deficiency of vitamin B12 in the body can cause anemia, fatigue, and low blood pressure. Lack of this nutrient can result in excessive bleeding as well as nerve damage. Some of the vitamin B12 containing foods include eggs, fortified cereals, animal meat, lentils, fish (salmon and tuna), and low-fat dairy products such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. 

4. Increase Your Caffeine Intake

Coffee and tea are good sources of caffeine. They temporarily spike the blood pressure by stimulating the cardiovascular system and boosting your heart rate. 

5. Eat Folate Containing Foods 

Folate is required by your body to function optimally and stay healthy. This nutrient can help in making the red blood cells and contribute to preventing anemia. Foods that are rich in folate are citrus fruits, lentils, beans, leafy green vegetables, wheat gram, broccoli, eggs, animal liver, etc.
