Cantonese zongzi famous recipe. Zongzi is basically glutinous rice with sweet or savoury fillings wrapped in bamboo or reed leaves. After being cooked in water, all the ingredients stick together and stay in a particular shape when unwrapped.It’s a sticky, aromatic and flavoursome treat that involves some very specific preparation. But it’s worth every bit of effort as it tastes so good!

Ingredients for Zongzi Recipe

  • 40 No.s dried reed leaves
  • 5 cup uncooked short grain sticky rice
  • 2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Soy Sauce
  • 0.67 cup raw peanuts
  • 450 gram pork belly
  • 1/2 teaspoon Sugar
  • 2 teaspoon shaoxing wine
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 6 No.s salted duck egg yolks
  • 3 No.s Chinese sausages

Directions: Zongzi Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Soak reed leaves overnight. Soak rice overnight. Mix the soaked, uncooked rice with light soy sauce and salt in a large bowl and set aside.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Soak the peanuts overnight. The next day, boil for 5 minutes, drain, and set aside.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Toss the pork belly with the light soy sauce, sugar, shaoxing wine, salt, and white pepper. Marinade overnight.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Heat the oil in a wok over medium heat. Cook the pork belly for a few minutes before adding the water.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Cover the wok with the lid, and cook for 5-10 minutes until the liquid is gone. Remove from the wok and let cool.

step 6

  • STEP 1.Cut the egg yolks in half. Cut the sausages into 12 equal pieces. Set aside in separate bowls. Wrap the zongzi. Enjoy.
