Directions: Yellow Moong Dal Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse the moong dal under running water until the water runs clear. Soak the dal in water for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, heat ghee or oil. Add cumin seeds, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Saut�� until fragrant.
  • STEP 3.Add the soaked moong dal, turmeric powder, salt, and water to the pressure cooker. Close the lid and cook for 3-4 whistles.
  • STEP 4.Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and stir the dal. If needed, add more water to adjust the consistency.
  • STEP 5.In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil. Add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies. Saut�� until the seeds crackle.
  • STEP 6.Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and mix well. Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves.
  • STEP 7.Serve the yellow moong dal hot with rice or roti.

  • Adjust the consistency of the dal by adding more or less water according to your preference.
