  • STEP 1.Soak rice and urad dal separately for a few hours, then grind them into a smooth batter.
  • STEP 2.Add grated coconut, jaggery, and cardamom powder to the batter and mix well.
  • STEP 3.Allow the batter to ferment overnight or for at least 8 hours.
  • STEP 4.Grease idli molds with ghee and pour the batter into each mold.
  • STEP 5.Steam the idlies for about 10-12 minutes or until they are cooked through.
  • STEP 6.Remove the idlies from the molds and serve hot with coconut chutney or ghee.
  • STEP 7.Store any leftover idlies in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
