Soft and smooth ven pongal recipe mainly consists of rice and moong dal cooked in ghee with spices and then it is tempered in cumin seeds, asafoetida and curry leaves.

Ingredients for Ven Pongal Recipe

  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1 tablespoon Moong dal
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1 tablespoon Cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 piece Ginger
  • 3 No.s Chillies
  • As required a few Cashews for crunch
  • As required a few Curry leaves
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida

Directions: Ven Pongal Recipe

  • STEP 1.Tempering -
  • STEP 2.Take a pan,  add a spoon of ghee, 1 spoon of cumin seeds,  pepper, ginger, chillies, cashews, curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida. Now saute for some minutes on low flame. Wait until the tempering turns golden brown.
  • STEP 3.Add the tempering into the cooked rice and mix well.
  • STEP 4.The ven pongal is ready.
  • STEP 5.Take a pan, add some ghee,  rice, moong dal and saute them for a minute.  wait till it turns aromatic. Add a cup of water, salt to taste and mix well.
  • STEP 6.Cover the lid and let it cook for 5 whistle blows.  check if its cooked well.
