Ingredients for Vanpayar Mezhukupuratti Recipe

  • 1 cup Red cowpeas
  • 1.50 cup Water
  • As required Salt
  • 1 Diced onion medium size
  • 5 No.s Dry red chilly
  • 4 Garlic pods
  • As required Curry leaves a few
  • As required Coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Kashmiri chilli powder

step 1

  • STEP 1.soak rice in water for 10 minutes.

step 2

  • STEP 1.in a pressure cooker add 1 cup of soaked and drained red cowpeas with 1 ½ cup of water and a pinch of salt.

step 3

  • STEP 1.cook till 1 whistle blows.

step 4

  • STEP 1.add into a mixer jar 1 diced onion, 4 pods of garlic and 5 dry red chilly. Crush them together.

step 5

  • STEP 1.heat 2 tsp oil in a pan and add the crushed ingredients and a few curry leaves. saute well.

step 6

  • STEP 1.then add ¼ tsp turmeric powder,½ tsp kashmiri chili powder and a pinch of salt.

step 7

  • STEP 1.saute till the raw smell of the chill powder is completely off.

step 8

  • STEP 1.finally add the cooked red cow peas and mix well all the ingredients.

step 9

  • STEP 1.stir-cook for a minute and turn off the flame.
