  • 1/4 Small Lemon Sized Tamarind
  • 0.13 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/4 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1/4 Tomato, Finely Chopped
  • as per your need Assorted Vegetables
  • 1/4 teaspoon Sambar Powder
  • 0.13 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Pressure cook the lentils with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft and mushy.
  • STEP 2.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, fenugreek seeds, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 3.Add chopped onions, tomatoes, and vegetables of your choice. Cook until the vegetables are tender.
  • STEP 4.Add tamarind pulp, coconut paste, sambar powder, and cooked lentils to the pan. Mix well and simmer for a few minutes.
  • STEP 5.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or idli.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add vegetables like drumsticks, brinjal, carrots, and beans to the saaru.
  • To make the coconut paste, grind fresh coconut with a little water to a smooth paste.
  • Adjust the consistency of the saaru by adding more water if needed.
