Ingredients for Turnip dumplings in Tomato gravy Recipe
As required Dumplings:
2 cups Grated turnip
1/4 cup turnip Leaves
As required finely chopped
1/4 cup Coriander
As required finely chopped
2 cups besan flour
As required ½c Rice flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tbsp chili powder
1 tbsp Spice powder ( a blend f carum
As required Cumin
As required Pepper
As required Chili
As required roasted and powdered
1 tbsp Crushed ginger and garlic
As required salt to taste
As required Gravy:
As required ¼ cup sesame seed oil
1 tsp mustard seeds
1 tsp Cumin seeds
As required Pinch of asafetida
1/2 tsp Fenugreek
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
As required ¼ cupcurry leaves
As required ½ cup onion
As required Chopped
1 tsp crushed garlic
3 cups chopped tomatoes
1 tbsp Sambar powder
As required ½ cup cooked toor dal
As required ½ cup Coconut milk (canned)
As required salt to taste
Directions: Turnip Dumplings In Tomato Gravy Recipe
STEP 1.Make balls and gravy simultaneously. Cook turnip and toor dal in pressure cooker. Take toor dal with 2c of water in a bowl. Take enough water in the cooker for steam generation. Place it in the cooker. Cover it with a plate. Keep the turnip on the plate. Cover and cook. Follow manufacturer’s instruction for operating the pressure cooker
STEP 2.Heat oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, asafetida. Let mustard splutter. turmeric, chillies and curry leaves. Add onions and fry for 3 minutes. Add garlic tomato and saute- 4 minutes.
STEP 3.Taking 3tbsp batter, make small balls. Roll the balls lightly in t ¼ cup of rice flour on a plate. Balls are ready to go into the gravy
STEP 4.cook the turnip in a pressure cooker to 50% . Take out the cooked turnip, grate Place in a bowl. it Add besan, salt, rice flour, chili powder, spice powders, ginger garlic paste, baking soda, finely chopped leaves, cilantro. With your fingers bring them together by adding little water, to make a thick batter similar to vada batter.
STEP 5.Add 10 cups water, bring it to boil, about 10 minutes.. Add sambar powder.
STEP 6.Add the balls one at a time to the boiling gravy. When cooked the balls will float.You may Take out the balls with a slotted spoon and place them in a bowl.
STEP 7.You may Take out the balls with a slotted spoon and place them in a bowl. Add the cooked toot to the gravy. When it boils, reduce the flame. After 4 minutes add coconut milk and stir.- 2 minutes
STEP 8.Add required salt and stir. Turn off the stove and the gravy is ready. Add gravy to the balls before serving. Aromatic turnip dumplings with gravy gravy is ready to taste.
STEP 9.You may serve the dish with rice, chappathi or dosai
