A bengali recipe of pointed gourd with spices . Tel Potol is a popular pointed gourd curry prepared in Bengali style with nigella seeds, pungent mustard oil and fresh green chilies. There are no other spices apart from turmeric for color, salt and sugar for seasoning. Tel Potol is a very light curry, which makes it smooth on the tummy too. A perfect summer meal!

Ingredients for Tel Potol Recipe

  • 500 gram Potol
  • 6 gram turmeric powder
  • 10 gram Sugar
  • 14 gram Salt
  • 4 piece green chilies
  • 1/4 teaspoon nigella seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon Flour
  • 40 gram mustard oil

step 1

  • STEP 1.Peel the potol , remove the pointed ends

step 2

  • STEP 2.Pricks from all sides

step 3

  • STEP 3.Heat a pan with mustard oil

step 4

  • STEP 4.Temper with nigella seeds

step 5

  • STEP 5.Add the potol and mix well

step 6

  • STEP 6.Add the green chilies

step 7

  • STEP 7.Fry on medium flame for 10mins

step 8

  • STEP 8.Mix the turmeric powder with water before adding

step 9

  • STEP 9.Mix well and cook for 6mins

step 10

  • STEP 10.Add sugar and salt , mix well

step 11

  • STEP 11.Cook until the smell of raw spices is gone

step 12

  • STEP 12.Mix hot water

step 13

  • STEP 13.Add some four and water mix to thicken the curry

step 14

  • STEP 14.Add 1tbsp of mustard oil

step 15

  • STEP 15.Serve with rice as a side dish
