Tehri Rice cooked in a cooker has an aroma that is so mouth-watering that makes this dish a must-try. Tahri (also tehri, tehari or tayari) is a yellow rice dish in Awadhi cuisine. Spices are added to plain cooked rice for flavor and colour. In one version of Tehri, potatoes are added to the rice. Tehri is a vegetarian dish prepared by cooking rice with potatoes. Other vegetables may also be added to it. It is common in Uttar Pradesh, India

Ingredients for Tehri Rice Recipe

  • As required Mustard oil
  • As required Potatoes
  • As required Cauliflower
  • 5 Cardamom
  • As required Pepper
  • As required Bay leaf
  • stick Cinnamon
  • 2 Cloves
  • 2 sliced onions
  • 1.50 teaspoon Chopped garlic
  • 3/4 teaspoon Ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • As required Salt
  • As required Peas
  • 2 Tomatoes
  • 1 cup soaked rice
  • 2 cup Water
  • As required Coriander leaves

Directions: Tehri Rice Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Take enough mustard oil in a pan so that vegetables can be fried. Add some chopped potatoes and half cook them. Add some cauliflower.

  • STEP 1.When the vegetables get fried well and start to look brown shift them into a separate plate and soak the oil using tissue papers/kitchen cloth

  • STEP 1.Then comes the spices, start adding 5 cardamom, pepper, bay leaves, cinnamon sticks, and 2 cloves, fry them well. Add chopped onion, ginger and garlic.

  • STEP 1.Add chili powder, coriander, turmeric powder, salt (according to taste). After the spices and powders are nicely cooked, add fried vegetables to it, give it a good stir. Add some tomatoes.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Soak a cup of rice and drain out the leftover water. Pour the soaked rice into the rice cooker and add 2 cups of water to it. Add fried vegetables to rice cooker and switch the cooker on. The tehri is done. Garnish with some coriander.
