A tangy tomato chutney sweetened by adding dates and jaggery. To make bengali chutney and sour tomato, heat mustard oil in a pan. Sweet and spicy tomato chutney is a delicious tomato sauce flavored with ginger and green chillies. The recipe is a tangy tomato mashed flavored with cumin seeds and curry leaves the red and the green chillies add heat to this delicious condiment to be served with your meal.

Ingredients for Sweet Tomato Chutney Odia Style Recipe

  • 2 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 4-5 Curry leaves
  • 2 Green chillies slit
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger grated
  • 5-6 Tomatoes Diced
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 4-5 Dates deseeded Nos
  • 2 teaspoon Jaggery
  • 1/2 teaspoon Saunf powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Roasted jeera powder

Directions: Sweet Tomato Chutney Odia Style Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.-1)in a preheated pan add 2 tsp oil, let it get hot. Then add ½ tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add 4 to 5 curry leaves and 2 slit green chillies saute for a few seconds till the chillies roast.

  • STEP 2.-2)next add 1 tsp grated ginger and saute for a few seconds.

  • STEP 3.-3)then add 5 to 6 diced tomatoes and mix well. Saute for a few minutes till tomatoes begin to become soft.

step 4

  • STEP 4.-4)cover and cook for 10 minutes.

step 5

  • STEP 5.-5)open the lid after 10 minutes and add salt to taste, ½ tsp turmeric (haldi) powder and mix.

step 6

  • STEP 6.-6)next add 4 to 5 deseeded dates and 2 tsp jaggery. Mix together with the cooked tomato.

step 7

  • STEP 7.-7)add a little water , upto the level of the tomatoes. Mix well and add ½ tsp saunf powder.

step 8

  • STEP 8.-8)cover the pan and cook for 5 more minutes on medium heat.

step 9

  • STEP 9.-9)after five minutes, the dates will be soft and the jaggery will have dissolved. The tomato chutney will be thick. Add ½ tsp roasted jeera powder and mix.

step 10

  • STEP 10.-10)sweet tomato chutney is ready.
