  • 1/2 Slices Bacon
  • 0.13 Small Onion, Chopped
  • 0.13 Small green bell pepper, chopped
  • 0.13 Package frozen crowder peas
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 0.13 tablespoon Garlic powder
  • 0.13 pinch Dried Thyme
  • 0.13 Crushed bay leaf
  • 0.06 teaspoon Seasoned salt to taste
  • 1/4 Slices cooked ham, cubed
  • 0.13 Tbsp Chopped Parsley, For Garnish

Directions: Southern-style Crowder Peas Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • Place bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat and cook until evenly brown. Drain and crumble. Mix onion and green bell pepper into the skillet and cook until tender. Stir in peas and water.
  • Season with garlic powder, thyme, bay leaf, and seasoned salt. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low, and simmer 30 to 40 minutes, until peas are tender.
  • Mix ham into the skillet. Adjust seasonings to taste. Continue cooking for 5 minutes. Stir in fresh parsley just before serving.

Cooking Tips

  • Start checking the crowder peas 15 minutes into the cooking time to see if they're tender and keep an eye on them after that.

Serving and Storage

  • You can also drizzle some Italian dressing over these crowder peas and tomatoes to enhance its taste.
  • This dish can be stored for up to 5 days.
