We enjoy a lot of different kind of biryanis - from mutton and chicken to beef and prawn. Beef biryani is sure a recipe that will keep you licking your fingers for a long time. If you want to make it at home, here is a simple recipe.
STEP 1.In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil or ghee over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and sauté until they turn golden brown and crispy. Remove some fried onions for garnish.
STEP 2.In the same pot, add the ginger-garlic and sauté for a minute until the raw smell disappears. Add the beef cubes and cook until they brown on all sides.
STEP 3.Stir in the cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric, red chilli powder, and salt. Cook for a couple of minutes until the spices are fragrant. Add the chopped tomatoes. Cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil starts to separate.
STEP 4.Reduce the heat to low and add the yogurt. Stir well and cook for a few minutes until the mixture thickens. Add the soaked and drained basmati rice to the pot. Mix gently to combine the rice with the beef and spices.
STEP 5.Pour in the 3 cups of water and sprinkle the garam masala over the top. Slow cook the biryani on low flame for 2.5-3 hours or until the rice is cooked and the beef is tender.
STEP 6.Once done, garnish with the reserved fried onions and fresh coriander leaves.
