A spicy preparation of fried tofu coated in a spicy bean sauce. Mapo tofu (ma po dou fu) is one of the most popular classic Sichuan dishes. It has a spicy, pungent, and appetizing flavor that goes perfectly with steamed rice.
Ingredients for Sichuan Spicy Tofu On A Hot Plate Recipe
1/2 piece Tofu cut into cm thick and 3 cm long 500 gm
15 gram Chilli Powder
4 Garlic finely chopped cloves
2 No.s Spring onions
1 tablespoon Spicy bean sauce
5 milliliter Light soy sauce
1 tablespoon Cornflour
60 milliliter Water
1 tablespoon Chicken granules
As required Salt
1/2 Oil ltr
Directions: Sichuan Spicy Tofu On A Hot Plate Recipe
step 1
STEP 1.1.in a wok heat ½ ltr oil, when hot add 500 gm tofu cut into ½ cm thick and 3 cm long pieces.

STEP 2.2. Fry till light brown on all sides.

STEP 3.3. Use a slotted spoon to remove and drain the tofu. Keep aside.
step 4
STEP 4.4. Pour out the oil into a container for use later. Retain 1 tbsp oil in the wok.

STEP 5.5. Heat the oil and add 4 cloves of finely chopped garlic and 15 gm chilli powder and fry for a few seconds.

STEP 6.6. Add 1 tbsp spicy bean sauce and fry for a few seconds.

STEP 7.7. Add 30 ml water, stir and bring to a boil.

STEP 8.8. Add 5 ml soy sauce, 1 tbsp chicken granules, salt to taste and the fried tofu pieces. Stir well together.

STEP 9.9. Bring to a boil for 1 minute.

STEP 10.10. In a small bowl mix together 30 ml water and 1 tbsp cornflour to make a smooth paste.

STEP 11.11. Then add this corn flour water mixture to the wok. Stir together. Remove the wok from the heat.

STEP 12.12. Heat the hot plate and add 1 tbsp sesame oil.

STEP 13.13. Then add 1 spring onion chopped into 1 inch pieces and add the tofu from the wok.

STEP 14.14. Garnish with 1 finely chopped spring onion and serve on the hot plate.
