  • 0.08 cup Toor Dal
  • 0.33 Chopped Carrot
  • 0.33 Chopped Tomato
  • 0.08 cup Chopped Beans
  • 0.08 cup Chopped Bottle Gourd
  • 0.08 cup Chopped Pumpkin
  • 0.67 cup Water
  • 0.17 teaspoon Turmeric Powder
  • 0.33 teaspoon Sambar Powder
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • 0.33 tablespoon Ghee Or Oil
  • 0.17 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 0.17 teaspoon Cumin Seeds
  • pinch A Pinch Of Asafoetida
  • as needed A Few Curry Leaves

Directions: Sambar Rice For Babies(above 15 Yr) Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak 1/2 cup of rice and 1/4 cup of toor dal (pigeon peas) separately for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the soaked rice, dal, 1 chopped carrot, 1 chopped tomato, 1/4 cup chopped beans, 1/4 cup chopped bottle gourd, and 1/4 cup chopped pumpkin.
  • STEP 3.Add 2 cups of water, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon sambar powder, and salt to taste.
  • STEP 4.Pressure cook for 3-4 whistles or until the rice and dal are cooked well.
  • STEP 5.Once the pressure is released, open the cooker and mash the rice and dal mixture lightly.
  • STEP 6.In a separate pan, heat 1 tablespoon of ghee or oil and add 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds, 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds, a pinch of asafoetida, and a few curry leaves.
  • STEP 7.Add this tempering to the cooked rice and dal mixture and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Serve the sambar rice warm with a dollop of ghee on top.
  • STEP 9.You can also garnish with coriander leaves for added flavor.

Cooking Tips

  • You can add other vegetables like drumsticks, brinjal, or capsicum to the sambar rice.
  • Adjust the quantity of sambar powder according to your baby's taste preference.
  • You can also add a small piece of jaggery to balance the flavors.
  • Make sure to mash the rice and dal mixture lightly to maintain some texture.
  • You can serve sambar rice with a side of yogurt or papad for added taste.
