Sweet Pongal is a delicious south indian festive dish made with rice, moong lentils, ghee and jaggery. Traditional dish made in many traditional south indian homes on the day of Makar Sankranti the indian harvest festival to the Sun God.
Ingredients for Sakkarai Pongal / Sweet Pongal Recipe
1/10 cup Raw rice
0.03 cup Moong dal
0.30 cup Water
1/10 cup Milk
0.15 cup plus grated jaggery
0.03 cup Ghee
1/10 nos tap cardamom powder
10 gm Cashew
1/10 nos tbs raisins
Directions: Sakkarai Pongal / Sweet Pongal Recipe
STEP 1.Dry roast the moong dal into golden brown colour. Add the roasted dal to the rice and rinse well and drain the water. Add water and milk to the rice and moongdal. Put them in a pressure cooker for 4 whistle on medium flame.
Jaggery syrup
Mix the grated jaggery with 1/4 cup water. Heat this on low flame to dissolve the jaggery. Filter the jaggery syrup and again boil the syrup. Boil until the syrup into thick consistency.
Once the pressure has released open the cooker. Mash the rice nicely. Add the jaggery syrup to the rice mixture and blend it. Cook it again for 3 minutes on low flame until the surup blends well with rice
Heat the ghee and add the cashew roast it into gokden colour and add this to the pongal. Add cardsmom powder and mix well.
