  • 1/2 cup Rice Flour
  • 1/2 cup Mint Leaves
  • 1/4 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1.25 En Chilies
  • 1/2 inch Ginger
  • 1.25 Lic Cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard Seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon Urad Dal
  • as required A Few Curry Leaves
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • As required Hot Water As Required

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a blender, grind together mint leaves, coconut, green chilies, ginger, and garlic to make a smooth paste.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add the mint paste and saut茅 for a few minutes.
  • STEP 3.In a large bowl, mix rice flour, salt, and hot water to make a soft dough. Fill the dough into an idiyappam press and press out the idiyappam onto a steamer plate.
  • STEP 4.Steam the idiyappam for about 10-15 minutes until cooked.
  • STEP 5.Transfer the steamed idiyappam to a mixing bowl and add the mint paste. Mix well until the idiyappam is coated with the mint paste.
  • STEP 6.Serve hot with coconut chutney or any curry of your choice.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to grind the mint paste to a smooth consistency for a better texture.
  • Adjust the quantity of green chilies according to your spice preference.
  • You can add grated coconut to the mint paste for an extra burst of flavor.
  • Idiyappam can also be served with a simple tempering of mustard seeds, curry leaves, and grated coconut.
