Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the dal for 30 minutes. Drain the water and pressure cook the dal with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 3.Add ginger-garlic paste, chopped tomatoes, and cook until the tomatoes turn mushy.
  • STEP 4.Add red chili powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and kasuri methi. Mix well and cook for a minute.
  • STEP 5.Add the cooked dal and peanuts. Adjust the consistency by adding water if needed. Simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • STEP 6.In a separate small pan, heat ghee and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and dried red chilies. Once they splutter, pour this tempering over the dal.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
