Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Cook the macaroni according to package instructions until al dente.
  • STEP 2.In a large skillet, cook the ground meat until browned.
  • STEP 3.Add the onion, garlic, and spices to the skillet and cook until the onion is softened.
  • STEP 4.Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, and cinnamon stick.
  • STEP 5.Simmer the sauce for 20 minutes, then remove the cinnamon stick.
  • STEP 6.In a separate saucepan, melt the butter and whisk in the flour to make a roux.
  • STEP 7.Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth and thickened.
  • STEP 8.Remove the saucepan from heat and whisk in the beaten eggs and grated cheese.
  • STEP 9.Preheat the oven to 350��F (175��C).
  • STEP 10.In a greased baking dish, layer half of the cooked macaroni, followed by half of the meat sauce.
  • STEP 11.Repeat the layers with the remaining macaroni and meat sauce.

  • STEP 13.Bake the pastitso for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
