  • 1 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger Garlic Paste
  • 2 Green Chilies, Slit
  • 2 Tomatoes, Finely Chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Red Chili Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Coriander Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cumin Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 tablespoon Tamarind Pulp
  • as needed Fresh Coriander Leaves For Garnish

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.Pressure cook the lentils with water, turmeric powder, and salt until soft and mushy.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, and asafoetida. Let them splutter.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions, ginger-garlic paste, and green chilies. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft and mushy.
  • STEP 6.Add red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  • STEP 7.Add the cooked lentils and tamarind pulp. Mix everything together and simmer for 5-10 minutes.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
