Its two main components are misal a curry made with sprouted moth beans, usually topped with chivda, onions, chilis, and potatoes and pav, bread rolls used to mop up the flavorful curry.Misal pav is a popular dish from Maharashtra, India. It consists of misal and pav. The final dish is topped with farsan or sev, onions, lemon and coriander. It is usually served with bread or rolls toasted with butter and buttermilk or dahi and papad.

Ingredients for Misal Pav Recipe

  • 1/4 cup grated, dry coconut
  • As required Oil
  • 2 slices Onion big
  • 4 Garlic cloves ~5
  • 1 chopped Ginger finely
  • 1 chopped Tomato finely
  • 1 tablespoon Coriander powder
  • 1 tablespoon Goda masala
  • 1 tablespoon Red chilli powder
  • 250 gram Mataki
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 glass Water
  • As required Salt
  • As required A little Gudh / Jagger
  • As required Farsan
  • As required Finely Chopped Onion
  • As required Finely chopped Coriander leaves

  • STEP 1.Heat up a pan on medium heat. Add coconut and roast until it

  • STEP 2.Gets reddish colour. when done, take it out into a blender pot.

  • STEP 3.In the same pan add 1 tsp oil. Add sliced onion, garlic and ginger.

  • STEP 4.Fry on medium heat until onion gets reddish colour for about 5-6

  • STEP 5.Minutes.

  • STEP 6.Add tomato and fry for another 4-5 minutes until tomato

  • STEP 7.Becomes soft.

  • STEP 8.Turn off the gas and when the mixture cools down, transfer it into blender jar which contains roasted coconut.

  • STEP 9.Blend the mixture really well.

  • STEP 10.Heat up 1 tbsp oil in a pan. Add blended masala and fry on medium heat for about 3-4 minutes.

  • STEP 11.Add 1 tbsp coriander powder, goda masala and red chilli powder.

  • STEP 12.If you don’t have goda masala you can add kitchen king masala of any other garam masala.

  • STEP 13.Mix well and fry until masala releases oil.

  • STEP 14.Take mataki, add water, turmeric powder and salt.

  • STEP 15.Cook on medium heat until 1 whistle. Do not overcook the mataki.

  • STEP 16.Add mataki along with water into masala. Mix well. Add water.

  • STEP 17.You can also cook mataki in the kat itself.

  • STEP 18.Add salt and gudh to taste. You can skip gudh if you don’t like. boil misal on medium for 7-8 minutes.

  • STEP 19.Turn off the gas and kat for misal is already.

  • STEP 20.While serving, in a bowl add one layer of mataki at the base.

  • STEP 21.You can add layers of boiled potato sabzi, pohe.

step 22

  • STEP 22.Add lots of farsan and kat of misal.

  • STEP 23.Add onion and finely chopped coriander.

step 24

  • STEP 24.Garnish with fine shave. Serve with ladi pav, onion, coriander and slice of lemon.
