  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Chili Powder

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse 1 cup of masoor dal (red lentils) and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, heat 2 tablespoons of oil and add 1 teaspoon of cumin seeds.
  • STEP 3.Once the cumin seeds splutter, add 1 finely chopped onion and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 4.Add 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  • STEP 5.Add 1 cup of chopped pumpkin and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Drain the soaked dal and add it to the pressure cooker along with 3 cups of water.
  • STEP 7.Add 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder, 1 teaspoon of red chili powder, and salt to taste.
  • STEP 8.Close the pressure cooker and cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is soft and cooked.
  • STEP 9.Once the pressure releases, open the cooker and give the dal a good stir.
  • STEP 10.Garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
