Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak the lentils for 30 minutes. Drain the water.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, add the lentils, water, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook for 3-4 whistles or until the lentils are cooked.
  • STEP 3.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and asafoetida.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions, ginger-garlic paste, and green chilies. Cook until onions turn golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped tomatoes, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked lentils and tamarind pulp. Mix well and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 7.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
