Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Rinse the split red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • STEP 2.In the Instant Pot, add the rinsed lentils, diced tomatoes, minced ginger, minced garlic, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt.
  • STEP 3.Add water to the Instant Pot and give everything a good stir.
  • STEP 4.Close the lid of the Instant Pot and set the valve to the sealing position.
  • STEP 5.Cook on high pressure for 8 minutes, followed by a natural pressure release for 10 minutes.
  • STEP 6.Carefully open the lid and give the dal a stir. If it's too thick, add a little water to adjust the consistency.
  • STEP 7.Serve the Mizo dal hot with steamed rice or bread.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with fresh cilantro leaves and a squeeze of lemon juice, if desired.
