Dahi Vada is lentil fritters drenched in creamy yogurt and topped with sweet and spicy chutneys. This popular Indian street food is loved by all and is a perfect inclusion to any festive menu. Dahi vada is a type of chaat originating from the Indian subcontinent and popular throughout South Asia. It is prepared by soaking vadas in thick dahi. While dahi vada involves deep-frying of the vada,the nutritional value of dahi vada remains immense due to the presence of lentils and curd. Lentils are rich in protein and curd is an excellent source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and several other nutrients.

Ingredients for Instant Dahi Vada Recipe

  • As required Ingredients for vada
  • 1/2 cup Urad dal
  • 1/2 cup Moong dal
  • 1 inch grated Ginger
  • 2 No.s green chillies
  • As required Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper powder
  • 10-12 No.s Raisins
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida
  • 1/2 teaspoon Fruit salt or Eno
  • As required Ingredients for Dahi Vada
  • 2 cup curd
  • As required Tamarind chutney
  • As required coriander mint chutney
  • 1/2 No.s grated Carrot
  • 1 No.s finely chopped onion
  • As required Handful finely chopped coriander
  • As required Salt
  • As required Black salt
  • 1 teaspoon Roasted cumin powder
  • As required Chaat Masala
  • As required Sev

Directions: Instant Dahi Vada Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash the two dals and soak in water for 4 hours.

  • STEP 2.Drain water from dal and blend the dal, grated ginger and green chillies with minimum water to make a smooth paste.

step 3

  • STEP 3.Add salt pepper, asafoetida, raisins to the grounded dal and beat the mixture. Put eno to the batter and mix.

  • STEP 1.Grease the idli moulds. Take a spoon of the batter and put in the idli mould. Flatten the mixture with wet hands into the shape of dahi vada. Steam the vadas for about 20 minutes. Take the idlis mould out and allow it to cool. Remove the vadas.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Immerse it in warm water for 1 minute and squeeze the extra water. Add salt, blacksalt and roasted cumin powder to the curd and mix it. Place 2 vadas on a plate, pour the curd, sweet chutney and coriander chutney.

  • STEP 4.Put some grated carrots and chopped onions. Sprinkle roasted cumin powder, chaat masala and sev.
