Ilish Maacher pulao is delicious rice based dish made with spicy hilsa fish cooked with basmati rice. This dish is an excellent meal by itself and does not require any accompaniments. A Bengali meal without fish is incomplete.Ilish is the most popular fish to Bengalis. Its also the national fish of Bangladesh and extremely popular in parts of India such as West Bengal, Orissa, Tripura and Assam.

  • 0.17 nos • tsp turmeric powder
  • 0-0.33 nos • cups curd
  • 0-0.33 nos • cups coconut milk
  • 0-0.33 nos • pieces hilsa fish
  • As required • For Pulao
  • 0-0.33 nos • tbsp ghee
  • 0-0.33 nos •  green chillies
  • 0-0.33 nos • cups coconut milk
  • 0-0.33 nos • cups soaked Basmati rice
  • As required • Salt to taste

Directions: Ilish Machher Pulao (festival Of Flavours) Recipe

  • STEP 1.For gravy, heat ghee in a kadhai and add bay leaves, cinnamon stick, cloves, green cardamoms, chopped onions, garlic paste and ginger paste and allow the onions to turn brown.
  • STEP 2.Next, add green chillies, salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well. Now add curd and coconut milk and cook it till the gravy boils.
  • STEP 3.Add hilsa fish pieces to the gravy and cook it on a slow flame for some time.
  • STEP 4.In a pressure cooker, heat ghee and add green chillies, coconut milk, soaked Basmati rice, salt and water, mix well and pressure cook it for 2 whistles.
  • STEP 5.Once the steam escapes, open the pressure cooker and add pieces of hilsa and the gravy to the rice and pressure cook it for one whistle.
  • STEP 6.Macher Pulao is ready to serve.
