Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Soak horse gram in water overnight and pressure cook until soft.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves.
  • STEP 3.Add chopped tomatoes, tamarind pulp, turmeric powder, and salt. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 4.Add cooked horse gram, black pepper, and water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • STEP 5.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or as a soup.

Cooking Tips

  • You can adjust the amount of black pepper according to your spice preference.
  • If you don't have horse gram, you can substitute it with any other lentils.
  • Adding a pinch of asafoetida (hing) enhances the flavor of the rasam.
