 This is a very easy and quick Tamil sweet dish.This dish is prepared from chana dal, jaggery and poppy seeds Hayagreeva is rich and traditional, classic dessert which is genrally prepared on the occassion of nivedyam as a prasada. Made up of many ingredients.Sweet in taste.Yummy and delicious recipe.

Ingredients for Hayagreeva Recipe

  • 1 cup chana dal
  • 2 tablespoon poppy seeds
  • 1 cup Jaggery
  • 2 tablespoon Ghee
  • As required Some raisins and cashews
  • 1/4 cup fresh coconut

Directions: Hayagreeva Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak chana dal in water for one hour

step 2

  • STEP 2.Dry roast poppy seeds for 2 mins

step 3

  • STEP 1.Boil jaggery in one cup of water to make a syrup and strain jaggery water to remove impurities.

step 6

  • STEP 3.1.in a pressure cooker add 4 cup of water,chana dal and cook for 5 whistles.

step 7

  • STEP 4.2.drain the water from the pressure cooker and mash the chana dal

step 8

  • STEP 5.3.add ghee in a pan and roast raisins and cashews

step 9

  • STEP 6.4.in a kadai add 1 tbsp ghee,grated coconut and fry for 2 mins

step 10

  • STEP 1.Now add the jaggery syrup into it along with boiled chana dal,fried cashews and raisins.

step 12

  • STEP 1.7.cook for 5 mins at low flame and then turn off the flame and add poppy seeds and cardamom powder
