Vermicelli cake, also called vam-a-zelli in Guyanese patois, is a dessert made from vermicelli noodles that have been simmered in milk, flavored with cinnamon, nutmeg, and other spices or extracts. Once the noodles are cooked and the mixture has a pudding like consistency, it is poured into a dish and left to firm up, then cut into squares.

Ingredients for Guyanese Vermicelli Cake Recipe

  • 250 gram Vermicelli
  • 1.50 cup Water
  • 1 can Evaporated milk
  • 1 can Condensed Milk
  • 2 cup 2% Milk
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 12 No.s Cloves
  • 2 No.s Cinnamon Sticks
  • 1 tablespoon Margarine
  • As required Raisins

Directions: Guyanese Vermicelli Cake Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Heat some water in a pan and add sugar, cinnamon and cloves to it and let simmer.

  • STEP 1.Take another pan and melt margarine in it and roast vermicelli until it turns golden brown.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Strain the sugar syrup and pour it into the pan and mix well. Cover and cook for 3 minutes.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Add in 2% milk, condensed milk, and evaporated milk in the pan. Give it a stir, cover and cook it for 2 minutes.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Now add raisins to it and stir continuously and cook till the mixture thickens. Pour the vermicelli into a bowl or tray and set aside.
