Ingredients for Gujarati Tuvar Daal / Arhar Daal Recipe

  • 1/4 cup Tuvar Dal (toor dal /arhar dal/ pigeon pea lentils
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 0.13 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Oil
  • 1/4 tsp Mustard seeds
  • 1/4 tsp Cumin seeds
  • 1/2 Pieces no. dry red chilly
  • 1 Pieces no. Cloves
  • 1/2 inch An inch piece of cinnamon stick
  • 0.38 tsp Ginger + green chilly Paste
  • To Taste Salt as per required
  • 0.06 cup Peanut
  • 0.13 tsp Turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tsp Coriander cumin powder
  • 1/2 tbsp Organic jaggery
  • 1/2 tbsp Tamarind pulp
  • 1/4 tsp red chilly powder
  • 0.38 cup water
  • 0.13 tsp Garam masala
  • 0.13 cup finely chopped Green coriander leaves
  • 0.13 Pieces no. lemon juice
  • 0.06 tsp Asafoetida
  • 1.50 A Few Sweet curry leaves
  • 1/2 Pieces no. Midium size finely chopped tomatoes
  • As Required For Ganishing Finely chopped green coriander

Directions: Gujarati Tuvar Daal / Arhar Daal Recipe

  • STEP 1.First wash the tuvar daal well and soak for 20 to 25 minutes. Then soak peanuts and tamarind in hot water for 10 to 15 minutes. Now take out the water of dal, take it in the pressure cooker, add water and turmeric powder in it and boil it by 4 whistles on medium flame of gas.
  • STEP 2.After letting the cooker evaporate, open the cooker and whisk it with a hand whisker or a hand blender.
  • STEP 3.Now heat oil in a pan, when the oil is hot add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, then add red chillies, cloves, cinnamon pieces, asafoetida and sweet curry leaves and cook for 2 minutes
  • STEP 4.Then add chopped tomatoes, ginger + green chilli paste, salt and peanuts and mix well. And roasted in a midium ges flame till then tometoes are soften.
  • STEP 5.Now add turmeric powder, coriander cumin powder, jaggery, tamarind pulp, red chilly powder and mix it.
  • STEP 6.Now add boiled tuvar daal and water and mix well. Cover and simmer on low flame for 15 minutes. (Add water to the lentils as thin or thick as you want the daal consistency)
  • STEP 7.Once the tuvar daal are boiled, add garam masala mix and turn off the gas flame. Then add green coriander leaves and lemon juice and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Now our sour and sweet Gujarati Tuvar Daal is ready to serve. Garnish the lentils with green coriander leaves. Serve this daal with bhakhri, paratha, roti or boiled rice.
