  • 1/4 tablespoon Ghee
  • 1/2 tablespoon Grated Coconut

Directions: Green Tomato Kootu Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and chop the green tomatoes into small pieces.
  • STEP 2.Pressure cook the lentils until they are soft and mushy.
  • STEP 3.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped green tomatoes, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked lentils and mix well. Simmer for a few minutes.
  • STEP 7.In a separate pan, heat ghee and fry grated coconut until golden brown. Add this to the kootu and mix well.
  • STEP 8.Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.

Cooking Tips

  • You can adjust the spice level according to your preference by adding more or less red chili powder.
  • If you don't have green tomatoes, you can substitute with unripe tomatoes or tomatillos.
  • Make sure to cook the lentils until they are soft and mushy for a creamy texture.
