Dal makhni is my all time favourite dish. It has lentils which makes it protien rich and milk cream gives it a rich taste and aroma of whole spices is just heavenly. Typically whole urad is used in this recipe but whole urad does not suit my parents in law so i substituted it with kali masoor dal. So this can be called dal makhni with a twist.

  • 1/4 cup Kali masoor dal
  • 1/2-3/4 tablespoon rajma
  • 1/2 Chopped onion big
  • 1 tomato big size
  • 1/4 inch Ginger
  • 1/2-3/4 Milk cream or amul cream tbspoon
  • 1/2 Black cardamom
  • 1/4 stick cinnamon piece
  • teaspoon jeera half
  • 1/4 pinch Hing asafoetida
  • teaspoon Red chilli powder half
  • 1/4 teaspoon coriander powder
  • teaspoon cumin powder half
  • As required Salt
  • teaspoon Garam masala half
  • 1/4 tablespoon Desi ghee
