Winter season is known for fresh green peas and I have used this for making a very unique dish. I have made this dish with flattened rice stuffed with spicy green peas. This tastes amazing with sweet sour and spicy date palm jaggery chutney.

  • As required To make green peas stuffing you will need:-
  • 166.67 grams of green peas (lightly blanched)
  • 0.33 nos " grated ginger
  • 0.67 nos green chillies
  • As required Salt and sugar to taste
  • 0.67 tbsp white oil
  • 0-1.67 nos Peanuts
  • As required For Roasted Spices:-
  • 0.67 nos Bay leaves
  • 0.67 nos red dry chillies
  • 0.33 tsp whole cumin seeds
  • 0.33 tsp whole coriander seeds
  • 0-0.33 nos Small cardamoms
  • 0-0.33 nos Cloves
  • 0.33 nos " cinnamon
  • As required Dry roast these ingredients together in a pan and grind them.
  • As required To make sweet
  • As required sour and spicy chutney you will need:-
  • 0.67 nos Tomatoes
  • 0-0.33 nos dry red chillies
  • 0.08 cup Date palm jaggery
  • 0.17 tsp black pepper powder
  • 0.33 teaspoon chili flakes (optional)
  • 0.33 tsp Salt
  • 0.33 tablespoon white oil
  • As required To make the dumpling of flattened rice You will need:-
  • 0.67 cups flattened rice (fine)
  • 0.17 cup Flour
  • 0.33 tsp Salt
  • As required Water as per requirement
  • 0.17 cup white oil/as required for deep frying puli

  • STEP 1.First, to make the stuffing, make a fine paste of blanched green peas, ginger, and green chillies in a mixer.
  • STEP 2.Now heat oil in the pan, add the paste and stir it for three to four minutes on low flame.
  • STEP 3.After sometime , add salt, sugar and roasted spice powder and mix it nicely. Keep it aside.
  • STEP 4.Then add crushed peanuts and blanched green peas in the stuffing for crunch and mix it nicely.
  • STEP 5.Now to make sweet, sour and spicy jaggery chutney, heat water in a pan, add tomatoes and dry chillies, cover and boil it.
  • STEP 6.After boiling, peel the tomato, cut it into small pieces, add it to the mixer and blend it well.
  • STEP 7.Now heat oil in the kadai, add the tomato paste and stir it for three to four minutes.
  • STEP 8.Add salt, pepper powder and jaggery in it, stir it for a minute or two, cool it down and pour it in a bowl.
  • STEP 9.Sour sweet spicy chutney of date palm jaggery is ready.
  • STEP 10.To make Flattened rice Puli, wash the flattened rice with water, squeeze the water, put it in a container, mix it with flour and salt and knead it.
  • STEP 11.Cover for a while.
  • STEP 12.Apply little oil on your palms, take a small portion of the dough and make a well in it. Now place a small amount of green peas stuffing in it and close it.
  • STEP 13.Heat oil in a kadai and fry the Pulis on both the sides well.
  • STEP 14.When all the pullis are fried, garnish them nicely and serve them with Nalen jaggery chutney,(sweet-sour-spicy date palm jaggery chutney )
