Finger licking and tasty side dish from boneless chicken although generally thoran is a Kerala preparation (pretty much any vegetable can be made into thoran using grated coconut, shallots, cumin, and green/red chillies), it is believed this is a Reddiar recipe that first originated in Thirunelveli when the Reddiar community was concentrated there. Either way this is a delicious chicken recipe and very easy to make even for beginner cooks.

Ingredients for Chicken Thoran Recipe

  • 1 kilogram Finely diced boneless chicken
  • 1 No.s Onion sliced lengthwise
  • 2.50 tablespoon Ginger garlic chili paste
  • 1 cup Grated coconut
  • 2 teaspoon Chicken masala
  • 1 teaspoon Chilly powder
  • 1 teaspoon Pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 5 No.s Dry red chilly
  • 3 sprig Curry leaves
  • 3 tablespoon Coconut oil
  • As required Salt

Directions: Chicken Thoran Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.Heat into a pan coconut oil of 3 tbsp quantity.

step 2

  • STEP 1.Add ginger garlic chili paste, 5 dry red chillies and 3 sprig of curry leaves.

step 3

  • STEP 1.Add ½ tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp chilli powder, 1 tsp pepper powder and 2 tsp chicken masala.

step 4

  • STEP 1.Into the masala add 1 kg diced boneless chicken and properly coat it.

step 5

  • STEP 1.Cook with a lid on for 4-6 minutes on medium flame. Now cook for 5-6 minutes.

step 6

  • STEP 1.When the oil starts appearing, add in the grated coconut and mix well.

step 7

  • STEP 1.Add in 1 tbsp coconut oil and garnish with curry leaves.
