Ingredients for Char Sui/Chinese Bbq Pork Recipe

  • 3 pound Pork belly or shoulder cut into 2cm thick strips
  • 1 tablespoon Corn flour
  • As required Ingredients for sauce
  • 4 tablespoon Honey
  • 2 tablespoon Light soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Chinese cooking wine
  • 1 tablespoon Chili Garlic Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Oyster Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Hoisin Sauce
  • 2 teaspoon Dark soy sauce
  • 1 piece Chinese soy bean curd
  • 1 teaspoon Red yeast powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Five Spice Powder

Directions: Char Sui/chinese Bbq Pork Recipe

step 1

  • STEP 1.1 for the char siu sauce, in a bowl add 4 tbsp honey,2 tbsp light soy sauce , 1 tbsp chinese cooking wine,1 tbsp chili garlic sauce, 1 tbsp oyster sauce,1 tbsp hoisin sauce, 2 tsp dark soy sauce,1 piece of chinese soy bean curd, 1 tsp red yeast powder, ½ tsp five spice powder. Mash and mix together to combine well.

  • STEP 2.2 trim 3 pounds of pork shoulder or pork belly and cut it into 2 cm thick strips ( the length will depend on the size of the oven).

  • STEP 3.3 place the strips of pork in a zip lock bag along with the prepared sauce and place it in water to push out all the air, then zip it locked. Remove from the water.

  • STEP 4.4 give the meat in the bag a little massage with the sauce to make sure that the meat is well coated in the sauce.

  • STEP 5.5 refrigerate overnight.

  • STEP 6.6 after removing from the fridge, open the bag and add 1 tbsp cornflour and mix well in the bag. This will create a shiny flavourful glaze.

  • STEP 7.7 preheat the oven to 390 degree fahrenheit.

  • STEP 8.8 place the strips of pork on foil in a baking tray and place the tray in the middle shelf. Bake for 8 to 10 minutes . Then turn the strips over and bake the other side for 8 to 10 minutes.

  • STEP 9.9 then take the pork out of the oven and brush both sides of the strips with sauce from the packet. Return the meat to the oven and bake for 10 minutes.

step 10

  • STEP 10.10 then take it out of the oven and brush the strips again. Repeat this process of brushing and baking for 3 to 5 times.

step 11

  • STEP 11.11 be careful to ensure that the fat melts without burning.

  • STEP 12.12 when the pork is cooked tender. Remove from the oven and cut into thin slices.

step 13

  • STEP 13.13 serve with white rice.
