Ingredients for Cabbage Undi (Idlis) Recipe

  • 1/5 cup Rice
  • 1/10 cup Urad Dal
  • 1/5 cup Finely Chopped Cabbage
  • 1/20 cup Grated Coconut
  • 1/2 En Chilies, Finely Chopped
  • 1/5 inch Ginger, Grated
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • as per your need Oil For Greasing Idli Molds

Directions: Cabbage Undi (idlis) Recipe

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.In a bowl, soak rice and lentils separately for 4-5 hours. Drain the water and grind them separately to a smooth batter.
  • STEP 2.Mix the rice and lentil batter together in a large bowl. Add finely chopped cabbage, grated coconut, chopped green chilies, ginger, and salt. Mix well.
  • STEP 3.Grease the idli molds with oil and pour the batter into each mold. Steam the idlis in a steamer for about 10-12 minutes or until cooked through.
  • STEP 4.Once cooked, remove the idlis from the molds and serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.
  • STEP 5.For storage, allow the leftover idlis to cool completely. Store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat before serving.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to ferment the batter for at least 8 hours to get soft and fluffy idlis.
  • You can add grated carrots or other vegetables of your choice along with cabbage for added flavor and nutrition.
  • Serve the idlis with a side of coconut chutney, sambar, or any other South Indian curry of your choice.
