Ingredients for Brown chickpeas curry. Recipe

  • 1/4 cup kala chana (black/brown chickpeas).
  • 1/2 tbsp oil or ghee.
  • 0.13 spoon TeaCumin Seeds.
  • 1/2 cup onions ( large) fine chopped or processed.
  • 1/4 nos green chilli chopped (optional).
  • 0.56 spoon teaginger garlic paste(or ginger
  • 3/4 nos garlic cloves minced)
  • 1.50 cup tomatoes chopped or pureed ( to )
  • 0.44 teaspoon to salt(adjust to taste).
  • 0.13 teaspoon red chilli powder.
  • 0.31 teaspoon to garam masala.
  • 0.38 teaspoon Coriander powder.
  • 0.06 teaspoon turmeric.
  • 3/4 cups water.
  • 1/2 tbsp coriander leaves.
  • 1/4 nos small lemon(optional) for serving.
  • 1/4 tbsp Optional- ghee.
  • 1/4 teaspoon kasuri methi.(dried fenugreek leaves).
  • 0.13 inch ginger juliennes.

Directions: Brown Chickpeas Curry. Recipe

  • STEP 1.Add kala chana to a large bowl & rinse them at least thrice.Soak them for 6 to 8 Hrs or over night in 4 to 6 cups of water.
  • STEP 2.Once soaked drain the water & rinse them well.
  • STEP 3.Heat oil in pressure Cooker.Then add cumin seeds.
  • STEP 4.When they sizzle,add onions & saute until they Turn light Golden.
  • STEP 5.Next add ginger garlic & saute for a minute Or until a nice aroma comes out.
  • STEP 6.Add tomato puree & cook for a while until it turns thick.
  • STEP 7.Next stir in the spice powders - turmeric,red chilli powder,garam Masala,coriander powder & salt.Saute well until the mixture smells good & Begins to leave the sides of the pan.
  • STEP 8.Pour 3 cups water & add drained kala Chana.Stir well & cover the pressure cooker with the lid.
  • STEP 9.Pressure cook on medium flame for 10 whistles.Let the pressure release naturally.
  • STEP 10.Open lid & check if kala chana is tender & cooked.If not pressure cook for 2 more whistles.
  • STEP 11.Then add coriander leaves & all other optional ingredients-ginger juliennes,ghee & crushed kasuri methi.Simmer for 2 -3 min.Taste test & add more salt if needed.Serve kala chana with rice or roti.
