  • 0.17 cup Urad Dal
  • 0.33 cup Grated Bottle Gourd
  • As required Salt To Taste

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak rice and lentils separately for 4-5 hours.
  • STEP 2.Grind the rice and lentils separately to a smooth batter.
  • STEP 3.Mix the rice and lentil batter together and let it ferment overnight.
  • STEP 4.Grate the bottle gourd and squeeze out the excess water.
  • STEP 5.Add the grated bottle gourd to the fermented batter and mix well.
  • STEP 6.Add salt to taste and mix again.
  • STEP 7.Grease the idli molds with oil and pour the batter into each mold.
  • STEP 8.Steam the idlis for about 10-12 minutes or until cooked through.
  • STEP 9.Remove the idlis from the molds and serve hot with chutney or sambar.

Cooking Tips

  • Make sure to squeeze out the excess water from the grated bottle gourd to prevent the idlis from becoming soggy.
  • You can add some grated carrots or chopped coriander leaves to the batter for added flavor and nutrition.
