A flavorful healthy dish from the indian state of karnataka, bisi beli bath is prepared with rice, tur dal (lentil) and vegetables and is flavored with freshly made spice blend. Bisi beli bath translates to hot lentil rice in kannada language. This classic dish has a unique flavor and is spicy, a bit tangy and a bit sweet all in one go. Bisi beli bath gets its unique taste and aromatic flavor because of the use of freshly pound bisi beli bath masala powder which is a blend of flavorful roasted whole spices like red chilies, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, fenu greek seeds, black pepper, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon along with dry coconut and lentils (skinned and split black gram and bengal gram). Bisi bele bath is commonly found in restaurants that serve the udupi cuisine. The consistency of the bisi bele bath is porridge type and is a complete and wholesome meal on its own. It can be served at brunch, for lunch or dinner. It is served hot topped with ghee and some potato chips/papad and salad if preferred.
