Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and soak rice and lentils for 30 minutes.
  • STEP 2.In a pressure cooker, cook the soaked rice and lentils with water, turmeric, and salt until soft.
  • STEP 3.In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  • STEP 4.Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  • STEP 5.Add chopped vegetables and cook until they are tender.
  • STEP 6.Add the cooked rice and lentils to the pan and mix well.
  • STEP 7.Add Bisi Bele Bath powder, tamarind pulp, jaggery, and salt to taste.
  • STEP 8.Simmer the mixture for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • STEP 9.Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.
