Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.Wash and pat dry the okra. Make a lengthwise slit on one side of each okra, being careful not to cut through.
  • STEP 2.In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  • STEP 3.Add the stuffed okra to the pan and cook on low heat, covered, for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • STEP 4.Remove the lid and cook for an additional 5 minutes to crisp up the okra.
  • STEP 5.Serve hot with roti or rice.

Cooking Tips

  • Choose small and tender okra for the best results.
  • You can adjust the spice level by adding more or less red chili powder.
  • For a variation, you can also add grated coconut or roasted sesame seeds to the stuffing mixture.
