  • 1 cup Rice
  • 1/4 cup Urad Dal
  • 1/2 cup Grated Beetroot
  • 1 Onion, Finely Chopped
  • 2.50 En Chilies, Finely Chopped
  • 1 inch Ginger, Grated
  • as needed A Few Curry Leaves, Chopped
  • As required Salt To Taste
  • as needed Oil For Cooking

Cooking Directions

  • STEP 1.To make the batter, soak rice and lentils separately for a few hours. Grind them into a smooth paste and mix them together.
  • STEP 2.Add grated beetroot, chopped onions, green chilies, ginger, curry leaves, and salt to the batter. Mix well.
  • STEP 3.Heat an appe pan and add a few drops of oil in each cavity. Pour a spoonful of batter into each cavity and cook on medium heat.
  • STEP 4.Flip the appe using a skewer or spoon when the bottom turns golden brown. Cook the other side until it becomes crispy.
  • STEP 5.Remove the appe from the pan and repeat the process with the remaining batter. Serve hot with coconut chutney or sambar.

  • Ensure the batter is fermented well for soft and fluffy appe.
  • You can add grated carrots or other vegetables for variation.
